OSHA Introduces National Emphasis Programs (NEP) for Crystalline Silica and Amputation

OSHA recently announced NEPs to address silica exposures in construction and general industry. OSHA revised the Amputation NEP which includes industries and equipment that cause amputation injuries. Concrete and Ready Mix facilities could potentially be inspected under these emphasis programs. OSHA allowed a 90 day outreach period prior to enforcement inspections being conducted under the emphasis programs. Inspections will be starting soon.

During the 90 day outreach period, OSHA has created a webinar program on both silica and amputation NEPs. This webinar, which was hosted on March 26th, 2020, is an opportunity for facilities to learn what the emphasis programs are, why an inspection would be conducted, what the compliance officer will be looking for and how to get assistance.
